Abstract
Nine children affected by BECRS with a marked activation of interictal epileptic discharges (IEDs) during sleep were enrolled in a neuropsychological perspective study. Since the detection of IEDs activation during sleep, the children have been followed for 1.8-3.9 years (mean 2.2 years). At IEDs remission the cognitive evaluation showed a notable increase of IQ (t test: P <0.0001). In particular a significative improvement (t test: P <0.01) was observed in visuomotor coordination, non-verbal short- term memory, sustained attention and mental flexibility, picture naming and visual-perceptual performance.
