Abstract
An Italian case of 'non-tropical idiopathic splenomegaly' is reported. Besides the clinical and histological findings previously described, the patient had circulating immunocomplexes, a finding never previously reported. Some of the immunological disorders subsided after splenectomy and others after prednisone therapy. This finding suggests that the splenomegaly was not due to an underlying lymphoma, and poses questions about a common nature of tropical and non-tropical splenomegaly. The idiopathic form seems to differ only by the unidentified primary immunostimulator.
