Abstract

Background: IUGR children show an altered endocrine picture at birth. Objective: To assess the IGF-related variables at birth and 2 months of life. Design 2-months longitudinal study on 34 IUGR children. Methods: GH, IGF-I, IGFBP-1, IGFBP-3 and C-peptide were measured at birth and 2 months. Thirty subjects with birth weight appropriate for gestational age were chosen as controls. IGFBP-3 immunoblotting analysis was performed in 4 IUGR and 4 controls.
