Abstract

The activity of hexokinase, lactic dehydrogenase, isocitric dehydrogenase malic enzyme, 6-phospho-gluconic dehydrogenase, alanine transaminase and aspartase has been studied in the basaliomas using quantitative histochemical methods. The activity of all the enzymes proved to be increased in the basalioma by comparison with normal skin, particularly 6-phospho-gluconic dehydrogenase (890%), aspartase (650%) and isocitric dehydrogenase (450%). This increase in activity should not be considered an index of malignity because it was greater than that observed in 10 malignant melanomas studied for comparison purposes.
