The experience built in our Department in dose verification with phantom for each helical tomotherapy treatment plan mil be presented. Measurements were made both with ion chambers and film dosimetry. From data analysis we gained confidence with this new treatment technique; moreover it has been possible to identify which dosimetric and geometric parameters influence the agreement between planned and measured dose distributions. Perspective considerations will be made on the improvement we would like to get in some aspects of film dosimetry and on the overall efficiency of the verification procedure. It will be shown also the circumstances where dosimetric checks can lead to the change of the treatment plan with an improvement on dose sparing of organs at risk.
