Orientational order parameter in cubic D2

Abstract

We present an NMR study of the orientational order parameter 2θ -1>T=0 in cubic D2 as a function of the concentration C of molecules with an angular momentim J = 1. The splitting o the Pake doublet sharply decreases as C tends towards the critical concentration. Analysis of the results in terms of a first-order theory by Harris leads to a zero point motion of the angular momentum of about 0.02, which is in agreement with theoretica; predictions.
