The toluidine blue staining after methylation and demethylation has been applied to the guinea-pig pancreatic islets. Three cell types could be observed: blue stained glucagon-producing A cells, nearly unstained insulin-producing B cells and red-purp metachromatically stained third cell type; the last cell type was the same cell that could be silver impregnated by employing the Davenport's method.
