Abstract

Strong experimental and clinical evidences suggest that an overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) is implicated in the pathogenesis and progression of diabetes, atherosclerosis and other metabolic alterations which, in turn, increase cardiovascular risk. This review summarizes the data available about the role of oxidative stress in cardiovascular pathology and the therapeutic potential of antioxidants in cardiovascular prevention.
