Abstract
The collaboration between the Istituto Superiore di Sanità and the paediatric associations gave rise in 1999 to the Sentinel Paediatric Surveillance Project, whose main objective was the surveillance of vaccine preventable-diseases. 668 paediatricians (10% of the total) took part in the project, almost half of them for the whole period. Overall, the project was success, althouth the representativity of the network can still been improved.
