40 simultaneous pancreas plus kidney transplantations were performed in uremic insulin-dependent diabetic patients. In all the cases, the pancreas was segmental and the pancreatic duct was occluded with Neoprene. Complete correction of diabetes is obtained during the period of function of the grafts, but sometimes impaired responses are obtained after stimulatory tests. Cyclosporine improved the survival rate and the endocrine function of the pancreatic graft in comparison with steroids, but it has some side effects as nephrotoxicity.
