Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the possible correlation between exposure to antiretroviral drugs, other risk factors and the onset of paronychia in HIV-infected patients. Materials and methods: The role of some antiretroviral drugs and behavioural risk factors has been statistically evaluated in a group of HIV-infected patients with paronychia and in a homogeneous control group. Results: In our cases the antiretroviral treatment with lamivudine and/or indinavir and the pedicure practice resulted to be significant risk factors. Conclusion: Before the antiretroviral therapy beginning, patients must be adequately informed about the possible side effects of the drugs and about the role of usual behaviours in favouring the onset of paronychia.
