Abstract
The study evaluates the possibility of an early syndrome classification and it tries to identify the prognostic factors for idiopathic partial epilepsies. A specific syndrome can be recognized in 67% after the first seizure, and the diagnosis is confirmed in about 70%. Twelve percent evolves to CSWS like conditions. The prognostic factors related with prolonged course (> 3 yrs) are early onset (<6,8 yrs) and first occipital type seizures. Cases with a first fit during sleep present seizures during awake with similar frequency in the different syndromes (about 25%).
