Abstract
A series of 4 cases of intrahepatic cholestasis treated by external biliary shunt are reported, and the fact that the operation at least partly controls the clinical picture is stressed. It is concluded however, that not withstanding the painstaking histochemical and enzymologic research, and the data provided by surgical exploration, valid pathogenetic interpretation of the syndrome still presents considerable difficulties.
