Abstract
We studied thirty children with rolandic epilepsy (age of onset: 5-12 years) to detect the occurrence and time of onset of photosensitivity. Serial EEG recordings showed presence of photoparoxysmal EEG response in 5 cases (17%). In two children, photosensitivity occurred at the same time as rolandic epilepsy onset while in three it occurred later. Four patients had seizures different from those typical in rolandic epilepsy but common in other partial idiopathic epilepsies. Genetic factors with different age-dependent expressivity might explain the association of these features.
