Abstract

The aggregating property of a commercial partial thromboplastin (thrombofax) is reported and its mechanism of action discussed. In Born's aggregometer thrombofax provokes a strong platelet aggregation after a latent period. Evidence was obtained that clumping is due to release of endogeneous platelet ADP. In addition, a direct effect of thrombofax on the platelet membrane is suggested. Thrombofax is a stable, reproducible, ready to use reagent for the evaluation of the platelet release reaction.
