Abstract
We measured the minimal concentrations of synthetic prostacyclin required to inhibit completely in vitro platelet aggregation induced by threshold concentrations of ADP or arachidonic acid. No significant differences were found (with Student's t test for paired comparisons) between the amounts of prostacyclin required to inhibit aggregation of platelets from 10 uremic patiens (on long term hemodialysis) and 10 controls. This indicates that exogenous prostacyclin may impair platelet function in hemodialysed patients.
