Possible antiendotoxin activity of (+)-Cyanidanol-3 in experimental hepatitis in the rat

Abstract

The present study was undertaken to establish the possible value of (+)-Cyanidanol-3 (250 mg/kg, i.p.) in preventing or modifying endotoxicity in hepatic damage due to galactosamine (GalN) (1 g/kg, i.p.), E. coli 0127: BB endotoxin (LPS) (1 mg/kg, i.p.) in rats. The course of 'GaIN hepatitis' and 'endotoxin hepatitis' was also investigated in relation to RES blockade by special Indian ink (C 11/1431 compound: 16 mg/100 g i.v.). The presence of endotoxins was detected by means of Limulus-test. Preventive treatment with (+)-Cyanidanol-3 reduces biochemical values (SGOT, SGPT, bilirubin) and histological lesions related to endogenous and exogenous endotoxin.
