Abstract
A multicentric, prospective study on urethral stricture following transurethral resection of the prostate is presented. Between January and December 1990, 477 patients have been analyzed following a protocol in which 47 different factors were considered. With a minimum follow-up of 6 months, 33 urethral (6.9%), plus 14 single meatal (2.9%), strictures were observed. A specific lubricant, two different electrocautery devices and an irrigating fluid showed a statistically significant (p <0.05) relationship with the development of urethral stenosis. The above-mentioned parameters were further analyzed with a logistic regression model and the lubricant Uretral® was found to be the only single independent factor related to the onset of this severe complication.
