Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to review the literature with regard to the methods currently available for evaluation of the sensitizing power (capacity or properties) of products, whether cosmetics or drugs, for topical use. Examination of the literature reveals that the methods proposed by various authors are similar; all are based on two phases, the first to induce sensitization and the second to summarize the data of the literature, a method used by our group is described; it is based on those reported in the literature but some modifications have been introduced. The validity of the method we propose is discussed.
