Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the nutritional status of 28 surgical patients to test whether it is possible to define preoperatively the risk of septic complications. It was concluded that the classification of surgical patients into one of the 4 previously identified nutritional groups represented a rational and standardized method for evaluating preoperatively the risk of septic complications due to malnutrition.
