Presence of nerve growth factor and NGF-receptors in human Schwannoma cells

Evidence is presented which shows that a Schwannoma removed from a 70-year-old woman contained a high level of NGF and also expressed NGF-r in addition to two other specific Schwann cell markers, S-100 and GFAP. A cell line expressing NGF and NGF-receptors was isolated from this neoplastic tissue. It is suggested that this cell line might provide a useful model for studying mechanisms which regulate NGF and NGF-r.
