Abstract

Daytime sleepiness was evaluated in 244 epileptic subjects with a definite diagnosis of partial or generalized epilepsy on chronic stable antiepileptic drug treatment. All the patients completed a multiple choice sleep questionnaire and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS). The 11.4% of the subjects showed ESS score exceeding the normal upper limit. Drug treatment, nocturnal sleep quality and snoring appear to significantly affect ESS score.
