Abstract
Type II diabetes and disability frequently occur in aged patients. The causes for such associations are represented by: a) poor metabolic control; b) occurrence of a pro-inflammatory status associated with the development or worsening of sarcopenia; c) presence of diabetic neuropathy. Factors regarding metabolic control can improved by the use of sufficient therapeutic agents. On the other hand, it seems important to have data regarding screening, diagnosis, occurrence of complications and type of therapy in diabetic patients followed up by a non specialistic setting such as, the one that can be found in Geriatric Units. The whole of such information will allow us to improve the quality of care of diabetic elderly patients with doubtless a benefit of social health expenses.
