Abstract

Experience of 14 cases of primary endocardial fibroelastosis, mainly in newborns, is reported. One of them was of the 'contracted' type. Clinical, electrocardiographic and X-ray criteria are reviewed. In 7 cases these are confirmed by direct hemodynamic measurements. Treatment, natural history and prognosis are discussed, and the possibility of a distinction between 'benign' and 'malignant' forms is discussed.
