Abstract
We studied the coupling between pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) and right ventricular ejection fraction in 379 patients with dilated or postischemic cardiomyopathy. Right ventricular function was preserved in some patients with pulmonary hypertension, and the prognosis of these patients was similar to that of patients with normal PAP. Our results indicate that it is necessary to integrate hemodynamic variables of the right side of the heart with a functional evaluation of the right ventricle to improve the prognostic stratification of heart failure patients.
