Abstract

We describe a rare case of dyspneumatization of the right frontal sinus in a 9-year-old patient who underwent surgery for fibrillar astrocytoma of the right temporal lobe. The lesion was disclosed in a CT scan at the time of surgery and progressively enlarged causing paraglabellar swelling noted at followup examination 3 years later. CT and MR imaging were performed at subsequent follow-ups for the known tumour, demonstrating the progressive evolution of the pneumosinus dilatans aspect into a pneumocele. We speculate that these conditions of sinus dyspneumatization are consecutive stages of the same process, the causes of which remain unsettled.
