The term 'thrombotic microangiopathy' includes thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura as well as hemolytic uremic syndrome. Patients with thrombotic microangiopathy may lack a plasma factor which stimulates vascular prostacyclin, a potent endogenous inhibitor of platelet aggregation. 21 references. (Leon L.
