Abstract
In the last few years, many pharmacological and clinical studies have evidenced the central activity of protirelin and its beneficial effects on neurologic impairments. In the present study, 80 patients with sequelae of cerebrovascular accidents have been treated in a double-blind study with protirelin tartrate (1 mg two times a day by intramuscular route for 14 days). The group treated with the drug showed better results, with respect to the control group, with statistically significant differences in the psychometric tests performed together with a significantly better functional recovery. On the basis of the therapeutic results obtained along with a good tolerance, protirelin tartrate can be considered a useful therapeutic agent for the treatment of patients with focal hemispheric impairments.
