Abstract

Objective: During a depressive episode, a combined therapeutic intervention characterised by a pharmacological treatment associated to a psychoeducational intervention should be useful to help patients to improve the management of depressive symptoms and to strengthen the therapeutic compliance. In literature, there are some data about individual psychotherapy in depressed patients, while there are few data about the application of group psychotherapy. First of all, an assessment should be made to determine if the patient accepts the group intervention during hospitalization for depressive episode. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the acceptability for depressed inpatients to participate to a psychoeducational group. Method: 105 patients were recruited to participate in a psychoeducational group intervention (Tabb. I, II). They were assessed through a simple self-report questionnaire made-up of seven items. These items were apt to monitor satisfaction. Results: The 71% of subjects agreed "much" to participate to the psychoeducational group intervention (Fig 1). Although, at the first of psychoeducational intervention, the 34.2% of subjects don't have great expectation about it (Fig 5). To the end of psychoeducational intervention the 50% of the subjects reported an improvement about their knowledge on depressive disorder (Fig 2); the 27.7% reported an improvement about their knowledge on psychopharmacological therapies (Fig 3). Conclusion: According to the patients' opinion, psychoeducational group intervention contributed to their knowledge about depressive illness (Fig. 2) and compliance (Fig. 3) to its treatment, even though the degree of satisfaction differed from patient to patient (Figg. 4-6).
