A simplified purification procedure of human red cell 6-PGD, based on Blue Dextran-Sepharose affinity chromatography, is described. The enzyme obtained with this procedure is homogeneous, and the specific activity is 9.0 U/mg protein after a 3,000 fold purification. The method should be particularly suitable for purification from small samples of blood as in the case of genetic variants.
