Abstract

The secundum type ofatrial septal defect is one of the most common conditions associated with pulmonary arterial hypertension. In a series of 274 consecutive patients who have undergone percutaneous atrial septal defect device closure at our institution we observed an increase in pulmonary artery pressure with age, but only three patients had overt pulmonary arterial hypertension.
