Abstract

This article reviews the epidemiology of head and neck cancer, highlighting recently published research that has provided new knowledge. Several cancers are specifically excluded, including skin cancer (both melanoma and nonmelanoma), cancer of the bone, pituitary gland, eye, ear, brain, and meninges, and all lymph node cancers and sarcomas. A more detailed review of this topic is available elsewhere (Boyle et al., in DeVries and Gluckman, eds. Epidemiology of Head and Neck Cancer, Springer-Verlag, 1990).
