We studied clinical and EEG characteristics of 576 symptomatic epileptic patients (324 M; 252 F; mean age 21.5 ys; range 2-75 ys), differentiated by their response to at least 3 drugs in 148 pharmacoresistant (FR) and 428 not (NFR). We revisited 1542 EEG reports of FR and 3587 of NFR and we found a significant presence of multifocal and diffuse epileptiform discharges in FR. Also early onset, polymorphic seizures, a history of status epilepticus and abnormal neuroimaging were significantly associated with FR.
