Abstract

An objective analytic method has been developed that is applicable to gated blood pool studies of the heart and, in principle, is capable of detecting and estimating the 'severity' of such abnormalities. This algorithm was tested on gated blood pool image sequences obtained in two groups of dogs, one group was imaged before and after distal and before and after proximal occlusion of the left anterior descending coronary artery, and the other group before and after similar occlusions of the left circumflex coronary artery. The location and severity predicted by the algorithm were then compared, respectively, to the known anatomical locations of the ischemic regions and to the measured sizes of the regions at risk of ischemia obtained postmortem.
