Regulation of plasmid copy number by complementary RNAs

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

The copy number of E. coli plasmids of the ColE1 family is regulated at the level of the formation of an RNA molecule that serves as primer for the enzyme DNA polymerase I. Negative regulation is obtained by the interaction between teh precursor of the primer and RNA I, a plasmid-encoded small RNA. The RNA-RNA interaction between the two regulatory molecules is modulated by the protein Rop.
