Since January 1985, the authors have compared 19 cases, including nine recipients of segmental transplants with duct obstruction, and ten cases of pancreaticoduodenal transplantation with enteric diversion. All patients received a simultaneous kidney and pancreas graft and were treated with the same immunosuppressive regimen (protocol D). To evaluate immunogenicity of intestinal tissue, the incidence of renal and pancreatic rejection was compared in the two series.
