Recently epidemiologic data come out about plasmatic fibrinogen value as a risk factor for ischemic cardiopathy and cerebral thrombosis gave us the cue to research, on the analogy, its possible role in retinal ischemia pathogenesis of diabetic patients. A population of 43 diabetic patients, subdivided in groups based on the presence of retinal ischemia at the retinal fluoro-angiography, has been examined in relation to haemocoagulative parameters. Statistically, a significant relationship has been found out between the presence of Ischemic Diabetic Retinopathy either preproliferative or proliferative, and medium haematic level of fibrinogen higher than the range of normality; a similar relationship came out to exist with the increase of platelet adhesivity.
