Abstract
The chances for research in general practice have recently grown in Italy, after the successful experience of the PPP Study, enrolling over 5,000 patients in a randomized clinical trial on the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease, and with the development of informatic data-base of such dimensions to allow the validation of models of risk prediction and prevention. In this perspective, it seems now possible and desirable to develop a cardiovascular risk chart based on the determination of the absolute risk for an Italian population, which is known to differ from Americans and North Europeans because of different dietary habits and social, economical and healthcare context. Such a project is presented in this article, with the aim to enroll general practitioners available to network their database and take part in this multimodular research experience.
