Abstract

Cognitive functions of 26 patients with temporal criptogenetic lobe epilepsy were studied. Respect a control group, one-by-one matched for age, sex and educational level, the patients show an impairment of long-term episodic memory. A worse performance was detected in the subjects with bilateral EEG abnormalities. A double dissociation between verbal and visuo-spatial tasks was also found in the patients with left or right EEG focality. Temporal EEG abnormalities seem to interfere selectively on the storage of mnesic traces.
