Abstract

Background. Loss of abduction and external rotation of the shoulder are frequent defects in brachial plexus sequelae. Methods. During period 1990- 1994, 19 patients underwent surgery of the shoulder by means of balancing muscle-tendineous transfers in our Department. L'Episcopo operation has been performed in 6 cases and Hoffer operation in 13 cases. Results. The results obtained outline the constant improvement of functions of the arm. Conclusioni. As L'Episcopo operation needs the strength of deltoid muscle that is reached in a few cases, Hoffer operation presents more frequent and wider indication than described in the literature.
