Abstract
Standardization and harmonization are probably the most relevant challenge for Laboratory Medicine. Rapidly available and precise results can indeed be of very limited value if they cannot be compared with each other, are produced on a wrong material or within an inappropriate diagnostic workflow. SIBioC is starting a strategy devoted to develop guidelines and to produce scientific evidence in order to improve harmonization of the total testing process. This paper summarizes all initiatives in the field that SIBioC has implemented, is developing or will try to develop in the foreseeable future to increase harmonization, by categorizing them in the different phases of the testing process, from pre-pre-analytical to post-post-analytical phase. A list of the proposed and programmed actions is further presented. An harmonized context will increase the value of laboratory results facilitating their interpretation and thus improving the patient's outcome.
