Abstract

The response to StaCW and SPA of highly purified populations of peripheral blood and tonsil human lymphocytes was investigated. Purified T lymphocytes from peripheral blood were unable to respond in vitro to StaCw, whereas highly purified B lymphocytes from peripheral blood and tonsil were able to respond to StaCw, even in the absence of T lymphocytes. Highly purified B lymphocytes from tonsil did not show any proliferative response in the presence of soluble SPA, whereas they responded well to SPA coupled to Sepharose beads. The response of B lymphocytes to soluble SPA was dependent on the presence of T lymphocytes.
