Abstract

We report the case of a patient with vitamin-D resistant rickets who became hypertensive, overweight and hypernatremic during the first months of therapy with phosphate supplementation (Joulie solution). We have found an extracellular volume overload (low renin - low aldosterone secretion, high GFR, in high diastolic blood pressure) and a direct relationship between phosphate supplementation and the hemodynamic situation. Owing to the high sodium supplementation we gave with Joulie solution, we support the hypothesis for the need for a low sodium diet during the therapy with phosphate supplementation in vitamin-D resistant rickets.
