DISTRESS RESPIRATORIO NEONATALE DI NATURA CHIRURGICA

Translated title of the contribution: Surgical causes of respiratory distress in newborn

Research output: Contribution to journalArticle

Abstract

There are many causes of respiratory difficulties in new-born infants and their cure involves various branches of medicine. In this report the authors take into consideration the causes of respiratory distress which involve surgery. Having attempted to portray the physiopathology which determines the state of the disease and after having given a functional classification, the authors illustrate the principle alterations responsible for a marked symptomology at the new-born stage. Attention in particular is called to diaphragmatic hernia of Bochdalek, congenital lobar emphysema, tension pneumothorax, which, because of the urgent aspect of the symptomology, represent the most serious conditions, necessitating therefore a diagnosis and immediate treatment. Finally, the authors outline certain principles which should guide the diagnostic procedure and the respiratory assistance of new-born patients and report individual case histories and results.
