Abstract
Surgery is considered good treatment for patients with hepatic metastases from colo-rectal cancer. During the last 3 years 35 patients with hepatic metastases from colo-rectal primaries were treated by surgery at the Istituto Nazionale Tumori of Milan, Italy. All patients were classified according to an original classification (Gennari, 1982). In total, there were 17 right lobectomies, 7 left lobectomies and 11 segmentectomies. Operative mortality was 2.8% and operative morbidity 5.8%. Overall actuarial survival at 1 and 2 years was 77% and 55% respectively. In the authors' experience surgery is a safe treatment for patients with limited disease and in good performance status.
