The anaerobic index: Uses and limitations in the assessment of heart failure

Abstract

Limitation of exercise tolerance is a hallmark of heart failure. Anaerobic threshold is aquantitative, reproducible, nonmotivational, submaximal index of exercise tolerance. The pathophysiological significance and methods of determination of anaerobic threshold are matters of debate. The principal aspects of such problems are discussed in this paper.
