Abstract
Cardiac infection can be limited to the heart or be the expression of a systemic disease. Viral myocarditis refers to the former condition including a variety of clinical symptoms and signs which arise many diagnostic and therapeutic problems. The role of cardiologist in both instances is analyzed. Inflammation seems to play a role in precipitating acute ischemic events. In fact patients died because of acute coronary thrombosis remarkable intraplaque and perivascular inflammatory infiltrates have been observed. An infectious disease, a toxic or a local autoimmune process have been hypotized. Clinical implications and possible perspectives of this new entity are discussed.
