Abstract

Three problems are critically discussed regarding the openings of "Residences for the Execution of Safety Measures" (REMS) as alternative to Forensic Psychiatric Hospitals in Italy: the illusion that a change of treatment setting implies a change of treatment itself; the lack of training for mental health professionals; the absence of a nationwide research on epidemiology and utilization of psychiatric services.
