Abstract
Older people are the fastest growing section of the population in the majority of all countries in the world. Since most long term conditions increase in prevalence with age, older people take more medications and use more non pharmacological interventions than other groups. Therefore, their long standing exclusion from clinical trials is perceived with increasing concern. The PREDICT [increasing the PaRticipation of Elderly In Clinical Trials] study was funded by the EU seventh framework program in 2008 with the aim to help identify, address and resolve the issues related to the exclusion of older people from clinical trials.
