Isokinetic dynamometry has established itself as a useful method for measuring or training dynamic muscle performance. The characteristics of the isokinetic dynamometer have enabled it to contribute to the great progress made in recent years in both the assessment and the rehabilitation of patients with ACL reconstructions. There are, however, some disputes within the international orthopedic community as to the correct use of this method. These uncertainties relate to both the times and execution of the test and the rehabilitation protocols. Numerous studies have illustrated the stress to which this exercise subjects the joint structure: both evaluation and isokinetic muscle recovery after an ACL reconstruction must be tailored to the requirements and functional capabilities of each patient in keeping with basic biomechanical principles, biological healing times and the clinical picture.
